Greetings from Canada
The skis have been reinstalled on GLTH and a break in the weather gave me an opportunity to do some landings at Powder Mountain. The glaciers above 7000′ are in very good condition with all but the largest crevasses still filled in or bridged from last winter. Below 7000′, much work is left to do.
The snow surface is so hard that is difficult to penetrate with the shaft of an ice-axe. I would say that wheels would do just as well as skis for landing and taking off. Any powder snow that existed in this area has blown away into the valley. So, we wait for a good snowfall to improve the surface. At least the season is underway and many new adventures await.
